Gearbox Idler Bearing Extraction

<This post is part of the 'Winter Project 2014/15 - (Gearbox Refurb)' project>

A few weeks ago I was trying unsuccessfully to get the idler bearing out of the transfer case, but I'm not defeated yet! Anyway while I'm pondering that little problem, I also need to get the corresponding idler bearing out of the gearbox housing as it's holding up the work a little. Again, I'm just too stingy to invest in the correct tool, so like a proper hooligan, it's time to have a go and see what happens.

Hazard Flasher Unit

One niggling problem I've had for a while is the fact that the hazard lights can be bit erratic. Sometimes they will flash slowly, then speed up, while other times they would just stay lit and not flash at all. Investigating the problem it seems there is a simple fix, so simple in fact I'm not sure why it took me so long to get around to sorting it out.

Squeaky Fan Belt

Since getting the car back on the road this week, it's been brilliant, except for one small thing. Well actually one very loud annoying thing - the squeaky fan belt. More of a squeal than a squeak really, like having an angry banshee under the bonnet that hates you acceleration! It's driving me mental, it's embarrassing and it has to be sorted!

Idler Bearing Not Budging

<This post is part of the 'Winter Project 2014/15 - (Gearbox Refurb)' project>

Before the engine can be reassembled, I want to change the idler bearing on the transfer case. The problem is though, the transfer case I intend to use has been sent off for soda-blasting, so I will have to wait until it gets back. But before that, I can practice on a scrap item I have in the hope I can work out the best method for this job.

MOT Time

After all the prep in the previous post, the time has finally come to take the car for it's MOT.

Pre-MOT Service

As the car's been in hibernation over winter and also the fact that the MOT's booked for next Tuesday, it seemed like the ideal time to give the car a service...

Aluminium Cleaning Experiments (Messing About)

<This post is part of the 'Winter Project 2014/15 - New Engine Rebuild' project>

In the previous post it seems I got my butt kicked while trying to clean up the clutch housing. Not many jobs get the better of me, but that one did. So before I send the parts off to get soda-blasted, I thought I would have a go with a few things I have around the shed that might get aluminium alloy parts looking cleaner.

For this, I'll be using a knackered transfer housing I have to conduct the experiments. See it pays to never throw anything away!

Knackered transfer housing is perfect for the job.
